Tarangire on Foot. The Walking Safari Days.

You land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where your guide meets you at the gate. The transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge takes under an hour, through coffee plantations at the foot of Mount Meru. Check-in is easy, unhurried. The rest of the day is yours at your own pace — settle into your suite, walk the gardens, or sit on the deck with a coffee grown steps from where you're staying. Dinner is at the lodge tonight. Tomorrow the Northern Circuit begins in earnest, so tonight is for resetting after travel, nothing more.

You leave Arusha Coffee Lodge after breakfast and drive south to Tarangire National Park. The road takes you past Maasai homesteads and farmland before the bush closes in. Tarangire holds one of the highest concentrations of elephant in Tanzania, and the herds gather along the Tarangire River, especially in the dry months. You arrive at Kuro Tented Lodge in time to settle into your tent and take in the view over the park from the deck. The rest of the day is yours, at your own pace, to rest after the drive or watch the animals move along the river below. Dinner is at Kuro Tented Lodge, under a sky with no city light to compete with it. This is the first of three nights here, and it sets the pace for what follows.

Your day starts with a game drive through Tarangire, tracking elephant herds along the river and scanning the baobab-studded plains for lion and leopard. You return to Kuro Tented Lodge for lunch and time at your own pace, the deck open to the valley below. After dark, you go back out for a night game drive, when Tarangire shows you a different cast: genet, civet, and the park's nocturnal hunters move under spotlight across the same ground you covered by daylight. Dinner tonight is at Kuro Tented Lodge, the day closing where it opened, with the park now seen in full, day and night.

You start on foot this morning, guided on a walking safari through Tarangire while the light is still low and the air is cool. Walking changes what you notice: tracks in the sand, the call of a bird overhead, the scale of a baobab up close. From there, your guide takes you into the part of the Park most vehicles never reach, away from the main circuits, where the bush feels less traveled and the pace is entirely yours. This is not a park you check off a list. It is one you spend real time in, and today is proof of that. By afternoon you arrive at Kuro Tented Lodge, your base for the night, set among the same baobabs and open ground you have walked through since morning. The rest of the day is yours at your own pace, whether that means resting on your deck or watching the light change over the Tarangire River from camp. This is the last night of a Northern Circuit built around The Luxury of Time, and it closes the way it began: unhurried, specific, and fully present.

A short flight takes you from Tarangire into Serengeti National Park. On arrival you meet your partner guide from Asilia’s Namiri Plains, part of the team that will host you for the night ahead. A brief briefing sets the plan, then you head out on a game drive en route to camp, using the afternoon light to your advantage. Namiri Plains sits in the eastern Serengeti, an area known for its resident cheetah population, and your guide reads the plains as you go, pointing out what the ordinary eye would miss. You reach camp as the evening drive winds down, in time to settle in before dinner. This is the last stop in a five-day arc built on The Luxury of Time — fewer stops, more attention, and a final night spent somewhere built for exactly that.

Today has no fixed script. Your guide meets you after breakfast to plan the day around what you want more of — a longer drive, a slower one, or a morning that starts late. The Namiri Plains region rewards this kind of pace: cat sightings here are frequent, and a guide who can wait an extra hour for a better light or a closer look makes the difference. You set the rhythm, out on the plains and back at camp. Meals come whenever you want them, and the deck at Namiri Plains is there for the stretches in between, coffee in hand, watching the grass move. This is the Luxury of Time in practice — a day built entirely around your pace, not a schedule.

Two game drives frame this day, one at first light and one as the plains cool into evening. Your guide sets the route both times based on where the animals are moving, not a fixed loop. Between drives, time at your own pace back at camp. Tonight you stay at Namiri Plains, known for its resident cheetah population, and dinner is served with that same open plain still visible from the deck. This is the last stop of the trip, and by design it asks less of you than the days before it — two clear windows to watch the Serengeti, and open space around them to simply be in it.

Nine days after your first game drive, this is the last look at the plains that shaped the trip — a fitting close to a stretch built on the luxury of time, not itinerary. From here, the connections are seamless: home, or sand and salt air, whichever comes next.
