Itineraries > Family Safari > An 8-Day Private Serengeti Migration & Mindfulness Safari
There comes a moment in every high-pressure life when the noise of the world becomes a roar, and the path forward feels obscured.
The Threshold of Courage is an 8-day private pilgrimage designed for that exact moment. This is a surgical detox for the spirit, built around a singular, visceral metaphor: The Great Migration’s Mara River crossing.
In an era of mass tourism, true luxury is the ability to be invisible. On this journey, privacy is our religion.
Guided by our deep-rooted local expertise, you will never share a vehicle or be forced into a rigid schedule.
Your private guide acts as a Mindset Mentor, navigating the bush to find those secret, silent bends in the river where you can witness the wilderness in absolute solitude.
By witnessing the raw courage of the “First Jumper,” you are invited to identify your own “Great Divider” and find the momentum to cross it.

Arusha
Wander the aromatic rows of the coffee estate, and enjoy an impactful visit to the on-site ‘Shanga’ workshop to witness the joyful glass-blowing art creation. Stay in plantation-style private chalets with en-suite log fireplaces and lush estate gardens.
Tarangire
We transition to Tarangire, a mythical landscape dominated by ancient Baobabs and great elephant “Tuskers”. You will ascend into the canopy, experiencing a return to childhood wonder elevated to the highest tier of luxury.
Enjoy arrival, settling into the canopy, and an introductory afternoon game drive. Experience world-class treehouse suites built into the canopy of Marula and Baobab trees, featuring panoramic viewing decks.
TARANGIRE
It is in this elevated privacy—where your only neighbors are the stars and the elephants—that your nervous system finally begins to recalibrate to the ancient rhythms of the earth.
Take a guided morning walking safari with a Maasai scout, a “Bush Lunch” in the shade of a 1,000-year-old tree, and an evening fireside “Storytelling Session”. Enjoy immersive wilderness access and luxury outdoor dining setups.
To stay here is to be “above it all,” grounded by the strength of trees that have stood for a thousand years.
Spend a day of deep relaxation to absorb the “Tarangire Stillness,” culminating in a thrilling Night Game Drive to discover the hidden, nocturnal world of the African bush. Make use of absolute privacy and specialized spotlight safari vehicles.
Serengeti
Experience a scenic flight over the Great Rift Valley, arrival acclimatization, and an exclusive evening game drive to survey the Northern Serengeti plains. The lodge offers sophisticated luxury tents tucked into rocky kopjes with expansive decks overlooking the Grumeti River
Northern Serengeti
Two days dedicated entirely to the “Threshold of Courage.” We journey to the Mara River, seeking a private, quiet vantage point away from the crowds. We do not just watch; we wait and reflect. As you observe the psychology of the migration and the chaos of the crossing, the emotional rawness of the landscape mirrors the leaps we must take in our own lives.
Take part in guided observation of the Mara River crossing with a Mindset Mentor, followed by an elegant “High-Tea in the Wild” and an evening “Reflective Meditation” back at the camp’s hidden decks. You are provided with private, unshared 4×4 safari vehicles and elegant wilderness dining.
Northern Serengeti
The final day shifts to integration, exploring hidden, quiet valleys to focus on the “After”—how life settles, fuels up, and prepares for the next chapter after surviving the crossing.
Set on a historic coffee estate in Arusha, offering calm, comfort, and elegant surroundings.
A secluded riverside safari retreat with front-row access to iconic wildlife moments.
A mobile camp that follows the migration, offering an intimate and ever-changing safari experience.
An elevated safari lodge with expansive views, blending comfort, space, and refined luxury.
A remote hilltop retreat offering privacy, raw beauty, and uninterrupted views of the Serengeti.

Family Safari
Anyone from 5 to 70+ years old
8 Days 7 Nights
Arusha, Tarangire & Northern Serengeti
Relaxed to Moderate
Preparing for your journey with East Africa Safari Guides ensures that your transition into the heartof the wild—and onto the shores of the Indian Ocean—is as smooth as the savannah breeze. Please review the following requirements to ensure a seamless entry into Tanzania and Kenya
Passport & Visa Requirement
Passport Validity:
Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond your intended departure date. Ensure you have at least three (3) blank visa pages to accommodate entry and exit stamps for both the mainland and island territories.
Tanzania & Zanzibar (Including Pemba & Mafia):
All U.S. and Canadian passport holders require a tourist visa for entry. While Tanzania and Zanzibar share federal immigration status, the islands maintain their own entry checkpoints.
Host Information (when prompted):
Host: East Africa Safari Guides Ltd.
Address: 11512, Levolosi, Arusha – Tanzania
Contact: +255 753 744 283 / +255 757 149 848, info@easguides.travel
Kenya Entry (Electronic Travel Authority):
Kenya has replaced traditional visas with an Electronic Travel Authority (eTA). All travelers, including infants and children, must obtain an eTA via etakenya.go.ke prior to departure.
Health & Wellness
Vaccinations & Malaria: East Africa is a malaria-endemic region. We recommend consulting a travel medicine specialist at least 8 weeks prior to travel to discuss prophylaxis (such as Malarone).
Yellow Fever Protocols: A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission (including a transit of more than 12 hours). If you are flying directly from Europe or North America into Tanzania, the vaccine is generally not required but is often recommended. Note: Proof of vaccination is frequently checked when flying between Nairobi and Arusha, or when arriving in Zanzibar from certain regions.
Special Considerations for the Islands (Zanzibar, Pemba & Mafia)
The islands offer a different pace and set of customs than the mainland.
Marine & Conservation Fees
Exploring the pristine waters of our marine parks requires specific daily conservation permits. These fees directly support the preservation of our coral reefs and the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
Mafia Island Marine Park:
Visitors staying within the Marine Park boundaries (the Utende area) or visiting the Whale Shark zones must pay a daily conservation fee.
Pemba (Misali Island & Pemba Channel):
As of late 2025, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has updated its fee structure for protected marine areas.
Mandatory Zanzibar Inbound Travel Insurance
All international visitors entering the Zanzibar Archipelago (including Unguja, Pemba, and Mafia) must hold a mandatory insurance policy issued by the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). This is a government requirement regardless of any existing global travel insurance you may hold.
Traveling with Families & Children
For our guests traveling with younger explorers, East Africa is a magnificent classroom.
Professional Advice for the Discerning Traveler
A Note on “Island Time”: While East Africa Safari Guides maintains rigorous standards of punctuality, the islands of Pemba and Mafia operate on a gentler rhythm. We invite you to embrace this “Pole Pole” (slowly, slowly) philosophy the moment you step off the plane.
