Itineraries > Family Safari > A 10-Day Luxury Family Slow Safari
ARUSHA
Your journey begins at Legendary Lodge. Before stepping into the wild, your family must find its center. Here, enveloped by lush, century-old gardens, the vague planning of the outside world gracefully melts away. These first 48 hours are dedicated to deep grounding, utilizing the natural properties of the estate’s flora to soothe the nervous system.
Enjoy arrival and acclimatization, concluding with a private garden spa ritual utilizing locally sourced coffee and cocoa. Unwind in colonial-style heritage cottages with lush botanical gardens and a wellness spa.
Arusha
Your presence actively uplifts the surrounding community through local coffee farming initiatives. Spend the day engaging with the heritage and rhythm of the estate.
Take part in an educational, behind-the-scenes visit to the “Seeds of Hope” coffee farming project. The lodge features an elegant dining room, a swimming pool, and refined lounge areas.
TARANGIRE
You transfer to Chem Chem Lodge, widely revered as the sanctuary of the slow safari. Here, we completely strip away the rigid schedule. This chapter of your journey is about absolute replenishment and discovering the delicate, ancient balance of the ecosystem.
Transfer to the lodge, followed by an evening sunset gratitude meditation on the tranquil edge of Lake Manyara. Accommodation includes luxury tented suites, a panoramic viewing deck, and a pool.
Engaging with specialized mindset mentors and local conservation projects, your family will gain a profound understanding of the harmony between Maasai herders and resident lion prides.
Start with morning “Maisha Marefu” (Long Life) wellness shots, and participate in interactive engagement with the “Lions for Life” conservation project. You are supported by fine dining, private open-air safari vehicles, and exclusive, unfenced wilderness access.
LAKE MANYARA
The expansive, uninterrupted silence of the surrounding salt pans naturally washes away years of digital fatigue.
Enjoy a completely disconnected “Vintage Picnic” set beneath an ancient Baobab tree, and an evening “Sunset Therapy” session observing the resident flamingos. The lodge offers comfortable lounges, a central fire pit, and expansive private grounds.
ZANZIBAR
Trade the golden dust of the savannah for the salt of the sea. You fly to Pemba Island, a pristine sanctuary that evokes the untouched magic of Zanzibar from fifty years ago. You arrive at Fundu Lagoon as all true explorers should—by boat. Skimming across the turquoise water, you enter a haven accessible only by sea.
Take a scenic light aircraft flight to Pemba Island, and a private speedboat transfer to the secluded lodge. Experience a remote wooden arrival jetty, safari-style jungle tents, and uninterrupted ocean views.
ZANZIBAR
Fundu Lagoon is a refined Robinson Crusoe dream reimagined for the elite traveler. Hidden within the lush jungle canopy with no public roads in sight, you are completely invisible to the outside world.
Take part in scuba diving or snorkeling explorations among the vibrant, protected coral gardens of Misali Island. Enjoy beachfront or hillside suites, an infinity pool, and pristine, private beach access.
ZANZIBAR
Your days here are dictated only by the shifting tides and the sun.
Enjoy high-tide kayaking excursions through the silent, ancient mangrove forests. The resort features an open-air restaurant, beach bars, and a tranquil, nature-integrated wellness spa.
ZANZIBAR
Your family’s stay directly sustains vital coral reef protection and local education initiatives, ensuring the delicate ecosystem of this island remains unbroken for generations to come.
Heading back Home
A short flight brings you to the historic, winding alleys of Stone Town for a final sensory immersion. Having moved gracefully from the savannah’s heartbeat to the ocean’s breath, you return home connected, grounded, and serving as lifelong guardians of both landscapes.
Take a domestic flight to Stone Town, enjoy a guided “Scent Journey” walking tour through the famous spice markets, followed by your international departure. You will have access to comfortable day-use facilities before evening flights.
Ideally situated on the outskirts of Arusha, this lodge is a brilliant spot to stay.
An intimate forest hideaway in Tarangire, blending nature, stillness, and understated luxury.
An exclusive tented camp in Burunge, designed for privacy, stillness, and authentic safari moments.

Family Safari
Anyone from 5 to 70+ years old
10 Days 9 Nights
Safari & Pemba Island
Relaxed to Moderate
Preparing for your journey with East Africa Safari Guides ensures that your transition into the heartof the wild—and onto the shores of the Indian Ocean—is as smooth as the savannah breeze. Please review the following requirements to ensure a seamless entry into Tanzania and Kenya
Passport & Visa Requirement
Passport Validity:
Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond your intended departure date. Ensure you have at least three (3) blank visa pages to accommodate entry and exit stamps for both the mainland and island territories.
Tanzania & Zanzibar (Including Pemba & Mafia):
All U.S. and Canadian passport holders require a tourist visa for entry. While Tanzania and Zanzibar share federal immigration status, the islands maintain their own entry checkpoints.
Host Information (when prompted):
Host: East Africa Safari Guides Ltd.
Address: 11512, Levolosi, Arusha – Tanzania
Contact: +255 753 744 283 / +255 757 149 848, info@easguides.travel
Kenya Entry (Electronic Travel Authority):
Kenya has replaced traditional visas with an Electronic Travel Authority (eTA). All travelers, including infants and children, must obtain an eTA via etakenya.go.ke prior to departure.
Health & Wellness
Vaccinations & Malaria: East Africa is a malaria-endemic region. We recommend consulting a travel medicine specialist at least 8 weeks prior to travel to discuss prophylaxis (such as Malarone).
Yellow Fever Protocols: A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission (including a transit of more than 12 hours). If you are flying directly from Europe or North America into Tanzania, the vaccine is generally not required but is often recommended. Note: Proof of vaccination is frequently checked when flying between Nairobi and Arusha, or when arriving in Zanzibar from certain regions.
Special Considerations for the Islands (Zanzibar, Pemba & Mafia)
The islands offer a different pace and set of customs than the mainland.
Marine & Conservation Fees
Exploring the pristine waters of our marine parks requires specific daily conservation permits. These fees directly support the preservation of our coral reefs and the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
Mafia Island Marine Park:
Visitors staying within the Marine Park boundaries (the Utende area) or visiting the Whale Shark zones must pay a daily conservation fee.
Pemba (Misali Island & Pemba Channel):
As of late 2025, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has updated its fee structure for protected marine areas.
Mandatory Zanzibar Inbound Travel Insurance
All international visitors entering the Zanzibar Archipelago (including Unguja, Pemba, and Mafia) must hold a mandatory insurance policy issued by the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). This is a government requirement regardless of any existing global travel insurance you may hold.
Traveling with Families & Children
For our guests traveling with younger explorers, East Africa is a magnificent classroom.
Professional Advice for the Discerning Traveler
A Note on “Island Time”: While East Africa Safari Guides maintains rigorous standards of punctuality, the islands of Pemba and Mafia operate on a gentler rhythm. We invite you to embrace this “Pole Pole” (slowly, slowly) philosophy the moment you step off the plane.
