This splendid wilderness beckons individuals to revel in a safari experience devoid of throngs, sometimes even without fellow companions. Operating solely from June to November, Chada epitomizes a destination for which people should eagerly vie - the payoff is undoubtedly exceptional.

Positioned deep within the heart of Katavi National Park – in the isolated expanse of Western Tanzania, this camp finds comfort beneath a sheltering canopy of acacia and tamarind trees, peering over the expansive Chada Plain. It pulsates with vibrant wildlife activity, particularly during the dry season, often frequented by majestic elephants offering a truly renowned safari experience in Africa.

Tour Activities at Katavi National Park

Katavi is renowned for its extraordinary wildlife, featuring extensive herds of buffalo roaming the vast plains. In addition, visitors can encounter majestic elephants, mighty lions, elusive leopards, formidable crocodiles, and the massive hippopotamus. The park is also home to rare antelope species such as the sable and roan.

During the dry season, a spectacle unfolds as hundreds of hippopotamuses congregate around limited water sources, while crocodiles take shelter in riverbank caves. This unique phenomenon showcases the incredible resilience of these fascinating creatures.

The range of activities in Katavi is unparalleled, catering to the varied traveler’s interests. Escape for epic walking safaris, where you can intimately explore the landscape on foot, guided by our experienced team. Alternatively, join game drives in open 4WD vehicles, providing an exhilarating way to observe wildlife up close.

For a truly captivating adventure, night drives reveal a different side of the park, unveiling nocturnal creatures and their awe-inspiring behaviors.

For those seeking a truly immersive experience, the fly camping option allows you to sleep under the vast African sky, surrounded by the symphony of nature. Incomparable Birdwatching opportunities and captivating encounters with iconic mammals further enrich your safari experience.

What to do in Mahale?

The main goal is usually to get to a wild chimpanzee troop, whose complicated political and social maneuverings take place just a few feet away from the tour groups. On twisting woodland pathways, guides reveal life beyond the chimps, including nine other primate species, insects not seen elsewhere, and a pharmacopeia of medicinal plants.

The lake is also an excellent natural habitat to explore. Explore the lake by kayaking towards the Congo at sunrise, feeling the thrill of diving off the dhow into its sunset seas, and seeing hippos moonwalk in the depths.

Visit The Nomad  Philanthropy

A visit to Katumbi on the park's border provides an opportunity to experience a Lake Tanganyika community and see the activities of the Nomad Trust. You can visit the primary school, where the Nomad Trust has built and outfitted classrooms and installed solar electricity, as well as the community clinic, which provides crucial healthcare ranging from first aid to midwifery services.
