Every great journey begins with a conversation. Whether you have a specific route in mind or just a dream, our team is ready to curate your bespoke safari experience.
The minimalist island sanctuary.
Pristine Coral Reefs · Minimalist Luxury · Profound Isolation
“Pemba Island remains one of the last truly untouched frontiers of the Indian Ocean. We curate The Aiyana for clients who seek absolute, profound isolation after the sensory intensity of the Serengeti. Built entirely from local limestone and coconut wood, it is a masterclass in minimalist coastal luxury, completely removed from the tourist pathways of Zanzibar.”
Set upon the extreme northern edge of Pemba Island, The Aiyana’s architecture is deliberately stark and breathtakingly pure. Thirty pristine white villas are strung along an empty, powdery beach. There are no crowded resorts next door—only the sound of the Indian Ocean and the rustle of the surrounding emerald forest.
The interiors embrace barefoot elegance, featuring high vaulted ceilings, massive panoramic doors, and sunken outdoor bathtubs. Here, the luxury is defined by the absence of noise. It is an environment designed to completely reset your internal clock, allowing you to seamlessly transition from the thrill of the bush into a state of deep, undisturbed coastal meditation.

Board a traditional wooden outrigger canoe guided by local fishermen. Glide silently across the glass-like water as the sun dips below the horizon.
Surrender to the healing properties of the ocean with bespoke, locally inspired spa treatments designed to draw out the last remnants of travel fatigue.
Preparing for your journey with East Africa Safari Guides ensures that your transition into the heartof the wild—and onto the shores of the Indian Ocean—is as smooth as the savannah breeze. Please review the following requirements to ensure a seamless entry into Tanzania and Kenya
Passport & Visa Requirement
Passport Validity:
Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond your intended departure date. Ensure you have at least three (3) blank visa pages to accommodate entry and exit stamps for both the mainland and island territories.
Tanzania & Zanzibar (Including Pemba & Mafia):
All U.S. and Canadian passport holders require a tourist visa for entry. While Tanzania and Zanzibar share federal immigration status, the islands maintain their own entry checkpoints.
Host Information (when prompted):
Host: East Africa Safari Guides Ltd.

Kenya Entry (Electronic Travel Authority):
Kenya has replaced traditional visas with an Electronic Travel Authority (eTA). All travelers, including infants and children, must obtain an eTA via etakenya.go.ke prior to departure.
Health & Wellness
Vaccinations & Malaria: East Africa is a malaria-endemic region. We recommend consulting a travel medicine specialist at least 8 weeks prior to travel to discuss prophylaxis (such as Malarone).
Yellow Fever Protocols: A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission (including a transit of more than 12 hours). If you are flying directly from Europe or North America into Tanzania, the vaccine is generally not required but is often recommended. Note: Proof of vaccination is frequently checked when flying between Nairobi and Arusha, or when arriving in Zanzibar from certain regions.
Special Considerations for the Islands (Zanzibar, Pemba & Mafia)
The islands offer a different pace and set of customs than the mainland.
Marine & Conservation Fees
Exploring the pristine waters of our marine parks requires specific daily conservation permits. These fees directly support the preservation of our coral reefs and the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
Mafia Island Marine Park:
Visitors staying within the Marine Park boundaries (the Utende area) or visiting the Whale Shark zones must pay a daily conservation fee.
Pemba (Misali Island & Pemba Channel):
As of late 2025, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has updated its fee structure for protected marine areas.
Mandatory Zanzibar Inbound Travel Insurance
All international visitors entering the Zanzibar Archipelago (including Unguja, Pemba, and Mafia) must hold a mandatory insurance policy issued by the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). This is a government requirement regardless of any existing global travel insurance you may hold.
Traveling with Families & Children
For our guests traveling with younger explorers, East Africa is a magnificent classroom.
Professional Advice for the Discerning Traveler
A Note on “Island Time”: While East Africa Safari Guides maintains rigorous standards of punctuality, the islands of Pemba and Mafia operate on a gentler rhythm. We invite you to embrace this “Pole Pole” (slowly, slowly) philosophy the moment you step off the plane.
Allow our team to seamlessly integrate The Aiyana Pemba into your bespoke slow safari itinerary.
